The horse is an akhal-teke stallion, and the little girl... Yes, you figured it right - the heroineapos;s daughter.

The picture was originally posted by the heroine herself on Russian equestrian site (equestrian.ru). Her answers to some disturbed comments: "Masha is in the saddle since she was 8 months... We donapos;t usually canter - only for this photo... Asteroid [the stallion] carries her like a crystal vase, he is the smartest horse in the world" Oh sure, so why bother giving the girl a helmet.

BTW, the girl from the picture is not just the horseapos;s owner - she owns a stable.
